The newest citywave® officially opened in the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius, in November 2024. This is the 21st wave of its kind. Centrally located in Vilnius’ city center, the facility spans 1,000 square meters and features a restaurant/café and event spaces, making it an inviting destination for visitors. As a standout feature, the standalone location is the first citywave® facility to offer co-living spaces, allowing surf trips to be combined with overnight stays.
Grand opening event with star guests
The official opening of the indoor surf wave took place on Saturday, November 9th. With approximately 400 guests, the Enefit Arena powered by citywave was packed with well-known personalities, water sports enthusiasts, and curious visitors. Vaidas Baumila, Lithuania’s most popular singer, hosted the evening alongside TV presenter Ugne Sipare. The grand event featured live music performances, dance routines, and a spectacular surf show.
Baumila expressed his excitement: “I surfed here for the first time last week, and I can only say: it was unique. In just one session, I gained so much experience. With citywave®, you can learn to surf quickly and safely while having an incredible amount of fun.”
Surf pros deliver a stunning performance
The highlight of the event was the spectacular show delivered by surf stars Lennard Weinhold (23) and Marius Gerlach (23), German citywave® surfing champions and three-time Continental Surf Cup winners. They flew in from Germany specifically for the opening to showcase their best tricks. With smooth turns, 360-degree rotations, and a choreographed surf show, they captivated the audience.
Arunas Budreckas, the owner of citywave® Vilnius, was thrilled: “The collaboration with the company citywave was as smooth and seamless as the wave itself. We are delighted with the successful opening and proud to bring the citywave® surf community to Lithuania with such a perfect wave in the heart of our capital.”
“We are excited about this successful event and the opening of our 21st wave. The citywave® Vilnius is the first wave within a 1,000 km radius in northeastern Europe,” said Rainer Klimaschewski, CEO and developer of citywave®.
