Surfing in the middle of the city? Starting in May, that will finally become a reality in Freiburg!
The first citywave in Freiburg will open on May 3rd, thrilling both surf enthusiasts and beginners alike. The grand opening party follows on May 17th, featuring a diverse program for visitors of all ages. With an impressive width of 9 meters and a smooth wave surface, the facility offers ideal conditions for both beginners and advanced surfers.
Located at “irie surf” near Freiburg’s trade fair grounds, university, and the Europa-Park Stadium, the surf wave sits right in the heart of the tri-border region.
“We’re very excited to open our next citywave location worldwide here in Freiburg. The setting at the foot of the Black Forest, near the French border, will not only excite the people of Freiburg but also attract guests from across the entire region,” says Rainer Klimaschewski, CEO and founder of citywave.
More Than Just a Wave: Culinary Delights and Events to Enjoy
Beyond the surf wave, irie surf offers a wide range of leisure activities, including surf contests, concerts, and more. Food trucks provide culinary treats, while a surf café invites guests to relax and unwind.
Mario Gerlach, founder of irie surf, shares his excitement:
“We at irie surf are thrilled to bring surf culture to Freiburg together with citywave technology from action team Veranstaltungs GmbH. Alongside citywave as our technology partner, we are also collaborating with regional partners to create a unique experience and enrich Germany’s sports and leisure landscape.”
