… and completes 50-feet surfer’s paradise on demand, with the yet largest man-made river wave system in the world near Seattle.
After several years of detailed planning and construction, the city of Chelan in the Pacific Northwest of the USA is birthplace to the very first citywave® installation in North America. The established Slidewaters water park and Munich-based wavepool manufacturer citywave® team up to change the face of modern-day surfing with the world’s largest endless surf wave, sourcing its power demand to 100% by renewable energy.
The wave is started at the push of a button and adjusted within a few seconds to fit any surfers demand. From children with no experience to pro surfers: “an hour in here and they will want to surf for the rest of their lives” says 24 times Windsurf world-champion and waterman Robby Naish.
The project has dealt with its share of setbacks, the most dramatic coming this summer with COVID-19 wiping out the 2020 season. But now that testing is underway the only wipe outs are from smiling surfers who have gotten the privilege to be one of the first surfers in the world to experience a 50ft. wide stationary wave.
“The only way to really appreciate the size of this wave is to see it first hand,” says Robert Bordner co-owner of Slidewaters, Lake Chelan Waterpark. “We expect surfers from around the world to be blown away not only by the width of the wave, but also the quality. The guys from citywave® have taken their already fantastic product to a new level with our installation.”
Lakeside Surf, the surf park facility that holds the world record citywave® USA, continues to catch up for time lost due to COVID-19 and plans to be ready for full operation coming out of winter in 2021. Surf memberships and surf sessions for the 2021 season will be available for booking starting this September. Interested surfers can visit Lakeside Surf citywave USA in Chelan, Washington for more information or to purchase a surf session or membership.
